Armenian Divine Liturgy on June 16 in Edmonton!

Dear fellow Armenians and friends!

We are pleased to inform you that on Saturday, June 16, Der Myron, the priest of St. Vartan Armenian church of Mississauga will pay a pastoral visit to Edmonton and will conduct a Divine Liturgy!

Following the Service we will gather at the church hall for socializing, please bring some food to share with fellow Armenians!

Donations will be accepted to cover the costs!

Vardan Vardanyan Armenian School of Edmonton

Dear fellow Armenians,

The Armenian Cultural and Educational Association of Edmonton is pleased to inform you that the Armenian School of Edmonton named after Vardan Vardanyan will re-open its doors starting on Saturday, December 9, 2017. The opening of the school was delayed this year due to the availability of space, which we have now secured.

The school will provide Easter and Western Armenian lessons, as well as educate the children in Armenian culture, history and traditions. Parents can register children by arriving at 12:00 p.m. on the first day of school, or by contacting Dr. Sona Grigoryan (contact information below).

School hours: Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.

The fee is $40 per month/child. Discount is available families with 2 or more children. The funds are directed towards operating costs and field trips/activities for the children. His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian's visit to Edmonton

Dear fellow Armenians and friends!

 We are pleased to inform you that on Saturday, March 25th, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Canadian Diocese, will pay a pastoral visit to Edmonton and will conduct Divine Liturgy!

 Following the Service we will gather in the church hall for a potluck event, during which we will commemorate the passing of Mr. Nazar Zarminian, who had moved to Edmonton with his family from Syria last year, and passed away recently. The commemoration will mark the 40 days (karasunk) of Mr. Nazar’s passing, and his family will be present. Please bring some Armenian food of your choosing to share.

 The St. Narek Church of Edmonton Parish Council will hold Annual Assembly with his Grace at 4p.m., in the Church hall, before Divine Liturgy. Those interested are welcome to attend the assembly.

 The time and venue:

 March 25th

Armenian Genocide commemoration in Edmonton on Sunday, April 24th, 2016

Dear Armenians and friends,

 

On the occasion of the 101th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, we invite you to join fellow Armenians and supporters to lay flowers at the City Hall Cenotaph in Churchill Square in Edmonton, at 1 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2016. We will gather near Tix on the Square and start a march to the monument. We will also observe a minute of silence to honoure our latest heroes who lost their lives defending ARTSAKH..

Please bring flowres for the ceremony.

This annual event is organized by the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Edmonton, in collaboration with the Armenian Educational and Cultural Association of Edmonton and Area and St. Narek Church of Edmonton.

We are pleased to inform you that on Saturday, April 9th, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese will pay a pastoral visit to Edmonton and will conduct Divine Liturgy with the celebration of Surb Zatik.

 

Following the Service we will gather at the church hall for the celebration of April 7-the day of beauty in Armenia where everybody will enjoy the performance by our Armenian school children:

 

•National dance "Nazani",

 

•Armenian poems,

 

•Artifacts made by children

 

Special thanks to Mr. Hagop Tavitian and Mrs. Seta Tavitian for their great help and commitment to our community!

 

This is a potluck event, so please bring some food to share with fellow Armenians.

The International Heritage Mother Language Day

Dear Armenian school parents, community members and friends,

The Armenian School of Edmonton invites you to take part in the 13th Annual International Mother Language Day in Edmonton!

Students of our school will present Armenian culture, history and language in an exhibit of Armenian artifacts.

The displays will be followed by a cultural program, where "Yes im Anoush Hayastani" by Yeghishe Charents will be recited just after the Mayor's speech.

The International Heritage Mother Language Day is on Saturday February 20th, from 12:00 to 4:00. The event begins with school displays, followed by the show.

Primate, His Grace Abgar Hovakimian's visit to Edmonton on November 20th, 2015

Dear Members of the Armenian Community in  Edmonton,

We are pleased to inform you that on Friday, November 20th, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese will pay a pastoral visit to Edmonton and will conduct Divine Liturgy and Bless Water with the newly blessed Holy Muron.

At Holy Etchmiadzin on September 27, His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, blessed the Holy Muron and proclaimed it the “Muron of Victory” in commemoration of the centennial year of the Armenian Genocide.

The newly-blessed Holy Muron was distributed to all dioceses of the Armenian Church.

Armenian Independence Day celebration in Edmonton

Hello Armenians and friends,

Join Edmonton area Armenians and friends to celebrate our community and Armenian Independence Day at Fort Edmonton Park this Sunday, September 27.

Fort Edmonton Park is a living history museum showcasing life in Edmonton throughout its different eras, through both original and rebuilt historical structures and costumed interpreters.

We will be meeting at the picnic shelter by the old-fashioned park in front of the fire station at 12:00PM.

Please bring any food of your choice!

There is no charge for admission on that day. The park will be open 10 am- 6 pm and is open to all visitors.

Armenian Genocide stone placed in the Memorial garden, Edmonton

On July 19, Unitarian Chaplain Rev. Audrey Brooks hosted the 7th annual genocide memorial. Speakers from various communities gathered to reflect on the horrors inflicted by human beings. Dr.  Sona Grigoryan raised concerns on Turkish denial of the Armenian Genocide. Along with members of the Armenian community, she placed a large stone in the Memorial garden honouring those murdered in the Armenian Holocaust .-  by  Dr. Junaid Jahangir, Edmonton AB

 


Genocide Memorial Service on July 19, 2015

On July 19, 2015 a memorial service will remember victims of genocide throughout the world through speakers, song and prayers. The Armenian community is invited to commemorate the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and will be placing an inscribed stone in the Memorial Garden at 9916- 154 Street in Edmonton, Alberta this Sunday at 1 pm.

 

The service will be led by the University of Alberta’s Unitarian Chaplain Rev. Audrey Brooks of the Edmonton Interfaith Center for Education and Action and UCE.

Camp Ararat 2015

This wonderful camp is free for Armenians in Alberta, you need to pay only the flight fee!!!


The Camp Ararat Family is excited to enter its second decade under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, continuing its mission to provide an environment where Canadian Armenian youth can experience Christian faith and Armenian heritage in a fun, safe and educational setting while developing skills in fellowship and service to the church and community. This year’s camp will be held at a new private location in Ameliasburg, Ontario from Sunday, August 16th to Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 where campers will be exploring the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. We are pleased to invite you to our Armenian Community summer picnic on Saturday, June 20th  2015, at 1 p.m. at Gold Bar,  Edmonton.

This is a potluck event, so please feel free to bring any food or drink (non-alcoholic) you wish to share with your fellow Armenians. You may bring a portable barbecue, or use one of the barbeque pits available at the park ( as of Tuesday, June 2, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services has downgraded from a fire ban to a fire restriction. During a restriction you can still use your backyard fire pits ​provided they meet the Community Standards Bylaws. You may also use your ​BBQs and cooking stoves. Fire restrictions apply to fireworks and open burning).
You may also wish to bring your favorite Armenian music and outdoor games to the event.
Please note that according to the city bylaws, alcohol in city parks is forbidden.
If you know of any Armenians in Edmonton and surrounding areas who may not have received this email, please inform them of the event.

Armenian Parliamentary Delegation Pays a Visit to the Diocesan Headquarters of the Canadian Armenian Diocese

On May 24, 2015, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Mr. Galust Sahakyan and Members of the Parliament of Armenia, accompanied by H.E. Mr. Armen Yeganian, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, visited the diocesan headquarters of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Canadian Diocese.
The delegation attended the Holy Liturgy (Patarag) at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Cathedral of Montreal.  Following the liturgy, the delegation met with His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese, Fr. Vazgen Boyajyan, the Pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator parish, members of the diocesan and parish bodies, and representatives of the Armenian community organizations operating in Montreal (Tekeyan Cultural Center, AGBU, Bolsahay Miutiun). On this occasion, a reception was offered by the Parish Council.
During the meeting, the primate presented the history of the Armenian diocese in Canada. The Speaker, Mr. Sahakyan, discussed the current political situation in Armenia and highlighted the importance of consolidation among Armenians in Armenia as well as in the diaspora.  Mr. Sahakyan then presented a commemorative present to the diocese.

Ecumenical Prayer in Edmonton dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide

On May 10, 2015, St. Narek Armenian Apostolic Parish of Edmonton in cooperation with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese organized a special commemoration Mass dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The Service was conducted by Archbishop Richard Smith at Saint Joseph's Basilica, accompanied by His Grace Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese, who was visiting Edmonton especially for this commemoration.
More than 1200 Christians attended the Mass. Following the Mass, faithful gathered at the Parish Hall of the Basilica, provided for the Armenian community with the compliments of the Archdiocese.
